The Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) has awarded us a grant of €61,423.73**,** co-financed by the European Union at a rate of 60% through the ERDF Operational Programme of the Valencian Community, for the project entitled “R&D ON PROTEASES DERIVED FROM AGRICULTURAL WASTE TO REDUCE WOOL SCALE”, under file number IMIDCA/2024/61, submitted to the PIDCOP-CV programme.
The objective of this project was the development of a new textile finishing product based on proteases derived from agricultural waste, together with its application process on wool fibres, in order to reduce/eliminate the scales characteristic of this type of fibre, which are associated with felting. The innovative solution consisted of using proteases obtained from agricultural waste to remove/reduce wool scales, making use of underutilised resources and reducing environmental impact.
FRANCOTEX has carried out the research and development of the formulation of the new bio-finishing product, which was developed using enzymes (proteases) derived from agricultural waste. SATINSA, meanwhile, has been responsible for researching the pre-treatment of the wool and the application of the new bio-finishing product.
The project has been successfully completed, defining a new process and product within the textile sector, thereby improving the performance of wool while reducing the environmental impact associated with the application of the finish.
